Football event in Molenbeek to highlight counter-radicalisation projects

ECR Chairman Syed Kamall (UK) will bring a UK anti-radicalisation football club ‘TUFF FC’ to Brussels this week to meet and play a game with ‘Project Foot’, a similar project operating in Molenbeek, an area that sadly became associated with the terrorist attacks of Paris and Brussels.

After their match in Molenbeek they will also visit the European Parliament where they will meet President Schulz and have a ‘kick-about’ with MEPs, including Mr Kamall.

Visit and game: Wednesday from 13.00

Extending the EU’s Criminal Records system

The home affairs committee will vote on plans to enhance the European Criminal Records Information System (ECRIS), which allows for the efficient exchange of information on criminal convictions between EU Member States when requested by a judge or prosecutor. The legislation would extend the system to include non-EU nationals whilst improving how information is exchanged so that a judge is now able to check criminal records and fingerprints across the EU in one request, rather than 27.
ECR home affairs spokesman Timothy Kirkhope (UK) is the parliament’s lead member (rapporteur) on the proposals, which he is seeking to deliver as swiftly as possible. This vote will enable him to enter negotiations with EU governments to find agreement.

Vote: Monday afternoon

Migrant returns

The home affairs committee will vote on the creation of a new European travel document that will make it easier to return people whose asylum application has been rejected. The new proposal addresses the lack of uniformity and security features in the current returns documents issued by EU Member States, which often leads to the countries receiving returned economic migrants to reject them.
ECR MEP Jussi Halla-aho (FI) is the parliament’s rapporteur on the proposal. This vote will enable him to enter negotiations with EU governments to find agreement.

Vote: Monday afternoon

FRONTEX

The home affairs committee will also vote its position on the new FRONTEX Border and Coast Guard. This updated mandate will give FRONTEX more power and resources to take decisive action to help Member States better control flows of migrants at the EU’s external Borders. ECR Shadow rapporteur Helga Stevens (BE) wants to see FRONTEX take a greater role in assisting in returns and readmission, and ensure that decision making powers regarding urgent action by FRONTEX in Member States should be in the hands of Council rather than the Commission, which is reflected in the agreement reached.

Vote: Monday afternoon

UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The employment committee will vote on a report drafted by ECR MEP Helga Stevens (BE) on the implementation of the UN Convention. She recently recorded a video setting out some of the key issues in the review: https://youtu.be/brkOtAsPKxE

Vote: Monday afternoon

Agents of the Russian World

ECR chair of the parliament’s Security and Defence sub-committee Anna Fotyga will host the presentation of a report by Orysia Lutsevych from Chatham House on proxy groups in Russia’s contested neighbourhood.

Presentation: Tuesday @ 16.30 in room A1H1
