A delegation formed by MEPs from the ITRE committee with ECR MEP Evžen Tošenovský, as the parliament’s rapporteur for the revised regulation on the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), had the opportunity to visit the BEREC Office headquarters in Riga and exchange views with the BEREC Chair and Manager of the Office.

Mr Tošenovský firmly believes that the existing set-up of BEREC should remain unchanged to ensure maximum independence of national regulators from any excessive influence by the European Commission. It is being understood that based on the ongoing negotiations on the European Electronic Communications Code, further competences could be given to BEREC which should lead to an adequate increase of BEREC Office staff in order to provide the professional support necessary to fulfil the tasks assigned to it.
