NEXT WEEK IN THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT
On Monday Anneleen Van Bossuyt will host a conference on Horizon 2020, the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme.
She will present to the European Commission ten recommendations on how to improve Horizon 2020 and make it more business friendly. Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for research, science and innovation will speak at the event, as well as several prominent business leaders.

Members of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will vote on measures to tackle tax evasion by exploiting differences (“hybrid mismatches”) between tax systems in EU member states and third countries. The ECR coordinator on the committee Kay Swinburne supports better cooperation between tax administrations but warns the EU not to use tax avoidance as a pretext for any tax harmonisation.

FIRST EVER REVISION OF THE MULTIANNUAL FINANCIAL FRAMEWORK (MMF)
BUDGET committee will adopt its recommendations on the first ever revision of the EU’s long-term budget for 2014-2020 (MFF).
ECR budget coordinator and shadow rapporteur Bernd Koelmel has doubts about the financial implications of the proposal and believes that the impact on payments has not been sufficiently assessed and addressed.

The UK Government is expected to trigger Article 50 on Wednesday in a formal letter to the European Council President Donald Tusk, beginning the process of leaving the EU. The ECR Group wants the negotiations to be conducted in a spirit of co-operation and lead to a deal that is fair on both sides. ECR Chairman Syed Kamall will issue a statement once Article 50 has been submitted.

7th Smoleńsk anniversary
ECR Polish delegation will host an exhibition and a movie screening dedicated to the 7th anniversary of Smolensk plane crash, where 96 people, including presidential couple, top military leaders as well as dozens of officials and parliamentarians, died on their way to ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyń Massacre.
