EU budget MEPs from the European Parliament’s ‘MFF Contact Group’, which includes ECR budgets spokesman Richard Ashworth, will meet with the President of the European Parliament ahead of his meeting with the Irish Taoiseach to discuss the agreement on the seven-year budget reached earlier this month.

EU-Ukraine summit
The 16th EU-Ukraine summit will take place, with the Association Agreement and a trade agreement being the main topics for discussion. Pawel Kowal is the chairman of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Ukraine. He wants to see Ukraine’s future firmly anchored to the EU.

Emissions trading – stop the clock
MEPs in the environment committee will vote on whether to ‘stop the clock’ on the inclusion of aviation in the Emissions Trading Scheme whilst efforts are made to find a binding global agreement on reducing aviation emissions. ECR Shadow rapporteur Martin Callanan wants these proposal to be adopted swiftly, believing that the EU must cooperate internationally to find an agreement, but must not act unilaterally by imposing its ETS on global airline companies.

Capital Requirements
MEPs and national governments will meet again in a bid to reach agreement on the Capital Requirements Directive. ECR Shadow Rapporteur Vicky Ford will represent the group at the meeting.

Latvia and the Euro
Latvian finance minister Andris Vilks will discuss Latvia’s application to join the euro with MEPs from the economics committee. ECR Latvian member Roberts Zile MEP is one of Mr Vilks’ coalition partners and he believes that, given the specific circumstances facing Latvia, Euro membership is still in its interests.
