ECR Group congratulates Lithuanian Member Parties on successful coalition agreement

The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group congratulates its Lithuanian member parties – the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS), led by ECR MEP Aurelijus Veryga, and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania–Christian Families Alliance (LLRA–KŠS), led by ECR MEP Waldemar Tomaszewski – on the successful conclusion of coalition negotiations with the Social Democrats.

Sitting together in a joint parliamentary group in the Lithuanian Seimas, the two parties will take responsibility for two key ministries: the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the Ministry of Justice. This will allow them to play a decisive role both in shaping Lithuania’s economic development and in safeguarding the rule of law. At the same time, in the face of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, their participation in government ensures that Europe can continue to count on strong and reliable partners in Lithuania.

ECR Co-Chairman Nicola Procaccini said:

“I congratulate our Lithuanian friends on this achievement. By taking responsibility for the economy and justice portfolios, they will be able to shape policy in areas that are crucial for Lithuania’s prosperity and rule of law. It also shows that ECR parties are ready to assume responsibility where citizens entrust them with it, and to work constructively for the good of their countries.”

ECR Co-Chairman Patryk Jaki added:

“This agreement proves again that our values resonate across Europe. The participation of our Lithuanian partners in government strengthens not only Lithuania but also the European voice of the ECR political family. We trust them to lead with competence and integrity – and to deliver constructive results for their citizens.”

With this agreement, the number of European governments in which parties from the ECR political family are part of the coalition has risen to six – Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, Bulgaria and Lithuania – while in Sweden the ECR-affiliated party provides parliamentary support under a confidence and supply arrangement.
