ECR Group welcome new members

The ECR Group today held their first meeting since the 2019 European Elections As well as being joined by their current members the Group also welcomed five new MEPs from three different countries.

Forum for Democracy from the Netherlands and their three MEPs elect, including former ECR Member Derk Jan Eppink, have joined the Group and their move follows a successful public meeting attended by their leader Thierry Baudet in February. Also joining the ECR today are German MEP elect Helmut Geuking, who represents the Family Party, and Kyriakos Velopoulos representing his party Greek Solution.

As we enter the new parliamentary term the ECR Group will continue its commitment to deliver genuine reform of the EU, where all Member States are treated equally and where policy is focussed on core common challenges, recognising that many issues arebest dealt with at national level.

Speaking after welcoming the new parties and members, ECR Group Co-Chair Ryszard Legutko said:

“We are delighted to formally add more parties and MEPs to our family. The ECR Group will continue to be an important force in the next parliament, working positively and proactively to bring about the
change that the EU desperately needs.

“In the coming weeks we hope to be joined by other new likeminded parties who recognise the limits of EU integration and the importance of treating all Member States fairly and equally.”
