ECR MEP Pirkko Ruohonen-Lerner (FI) was elected yesterday as Vice-Chair of the Panama Papers Special Committee of the European Parliament.

After the “Panama Papers” revelations, European Parliament set up a special inquiry committee to investigate the alleged contraventions and maladministration in the application by the EU Commission or member states of EU laws on money laundering, tax avoidance and tax evasion.

The Panama Papers consist of a substantial amount of detailed documents that detail financial and attorney–client information for more than 214,488 offshore entities, of detailed information on offshore companies and their ultimate beneficiaries.

Mrs Ruohonen-Lerner is also a member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and Special Committee on Tax Rulings.
