Protecting EU crafts
On Tuesday, the Legal Affairs Committee will vote on a new regulation to ensure that the geographical indication (GI) of locally produced crafts such as natural stones, jewellery, textiles, lace, cutlery, glass and porcelain is protected in the EU and internationally. The rules will benefit consumers by making it easier to know the authenticity of products and will have a positive economic impact on SMEs. The ECR Group believes that established production traditions and cultural heritage should be promoted and protected. The regulation also aims to strengthen protection against misleading commercial practices and to step up the fight against counterfeiting.

Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, prominent critic of the Iranian Islamist Regime visits the European Parliament
On Wednesday, ECR MEP Charlie Weimers and EPP MEP Tomáš Zdechovský will host Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi. HRH Pahlavi, who is a member of the newly formed democratic opposition in Iran, is visiting the European Parliament for the first time and will deliver a keynote speech on “a secular, democratic Iran: implications for Europe’s economy and security”, that will be followed by a moderated session. Given the European Parliament’s strong stance in support of the Iranian people since the beginning of the protests, the event is an opportunity to reiterate our continued support for the Iranian people to determine their own future and to discuss how the EU can help in this regard. For security reasons, please confirm your attendance in advance. There will be a press conference afterwards.
