Tuesday 4 March 2025 @ 16:00 - 18:00 CET
On Tuesday, 4 March, ECR MEP and European Parliament Vice President Antonella Sberna, EPP MEP Maria Walsh, and the European Food Forum will host a discussion on the EU’s approach to eating disorders, mental health, and their broader societal impacts.
The event will explore the regulatory landscape, prevention strategies, the role of social media, and the integration of mental health and nutrition in EU policies. Experts, including representatives from the European Commission and WHO, will share insights on improving awareness, accessibility, and policymaking.
The event will examine the broader social factors influencing mental health, such as education, gender inequality, poverty, and unemployment, highlighting the need for a comprehensive, intersectoral approach to early intervention. It will also explore the role of social media and influencers in shaping youth behaviors, particularly their impact on body image and unhealthy habits.
Despite growing awareness and treatment options, challenges like misinformation, accessibility, and societal norms continue to affect how eating disorders are understood and managed. By bringing together policymakers, healthcare professionals, and those affected, this event aims to drive evidence-based, forward-thinking solutions in regulation and healthcare, reinforcing the European Food Forum’s commitment to prioritizing mental health.
