Sakharov Prize
The leaders of parliament’s political groups will meet to decide the winner of the 2014 Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought. The shortlist is the Ukrainian EuroMaidan movement; Denis Mukwege, a Congolese gynaecologist; and Leyla Yunus, an Azerbaijani human rights activist.
The ECR will make a decision on which nominee to support at its group meeting.

Iraq and Syria
Representatives of the Yezidi federation in Europe will meet with MEPs on the Human Rights subcommittee to discuss the situation in Iraq and Syria. Mark Demesmaeker is ECR Human Rights coordinator.

Terrorism
The foreign affairs and home affairs committees will meet jointly with Jean-Paul Laborde, the UN Executive Director of Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, to discuss the increased threat level facing Europe. ECR Home Affairs spokesman Timothy Kirkhope will ask Mr Laborde about the growing threat of foreign fighters, and the measures needed to combat them such as an EU Passenger Name Records system.
