In his role as both President of the ECB and head of the European Systemic Risk Board Mario Draghi will appear before the economics committee. Last week’s poor growth figures in the eurozone, along with upcoming reforms to the EU’s Six Pack macroeconomic surveillance package are likely to feature in the debate. In light of the G20 warnings and renewed signs of the Eurozone slipping back into recession, the ECR economics spokesman Kay Swinburne believes that the ECB could intervene more to strengthen the Eurozone and that Member States also now need to step up their efforts to encourage economic growth using the reforms most appropriate to them, such as investment packages and structural reforms. With the promise of a EUR300 billion stimulus investment package, details of which will not be revealed until Christmas, there are hopes that the package will complement current ECB interventions.
