In a marathon session, the parliament’s agriculture committee will vote on proposals for reform of the Common Agricultural Policy. ECR agriculture spokesman James Nicholson is concerned that the ‘greening’ measures proposed by the commission are ill-suited to the challenges faced by European agriculture, and that the parliament’s agriculture committee will vote to turn back the clock on previous reforms to the CAP, which would be bad for new EU Member States, bad for the environment, and bad for farmers in the long run as it encourages reliance on subsidy rather than participation in an open marketplace.
