TTIP

The parliament’s trade committee will vote on its position on the EU-US agreement. ECR trade spokesman Emma McClarkin wants to see an ambitious and balanced deal that aims to increase market access, regulatory cooperation and coherence, and which puts in place clear rules for SMEs, competition, customs, energy, intellectual property, data flows, investment protection, and transparency. Ms McClarkin will host a conference on the potential benefits of TTIP to SMEs next Tuesday.

Committee vote: Thursday @ 10.30

Bank structural reform

The economics committee will vote on proposals for Bank Structural Reform, and ECR shadow rapporteur Syed Kamall is looking for a proposal that prevents taxpayers from having to bail out banks in the future, by taking a risk-based approach to issues like ring-fencing risky trading activities from retail operations. Dr Kamall’s priority has been to tackle the issue where a bank is too-big-to-fail and is working with the EPP and ALDE groups to ensure a sensible proposal is taken forward to negotiations with EU governments.

Vote: Tuesday @ 17.00

EU budget

The European Commission will present its budget for 2016, and EU Budgets Commissioner Georgieva will discuss the proposal before MEPs in the Budgets committee. ECR Budgets spokesman Bernd Kolmel will press for an annual budget that is balanced and better focused on delivering muscle, rather than fat. He believes EU budgets cannot continue to risk a payments gap between spending and income, and the EU’s payments gap should be filled with greater budgetary discipline.

Publication and meeting with Budgets committee MEPs: Wednesday @ 10.00

European Fund for Strategic Investment

MEPs and EU governments will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday in a bid to find agreement on the European Fund for Strategic Investment – – often referred to as ‘The Juncker Plan’ – which aims to use 21 billion euros of EU and European Investment Bank money to act as guarantees that could unlock up to 315 billion euros in investment in projects, infrastructure and small businesses. ECR shadow rapporteur in the economics committee Sander Loones, and ECR shadow in the Budgets committee Richard Ashworth set out their priorities for the fund here.
