The European Parliament has adopted new and clearer EU rules on the transfer of criminal proceedings in cross-border criminal cases.
The law will speed up investigations, especially into serious organised crime, which is often transnational. It will also improve the efficiency of the administration of justice.
“The new rules are a crucial step towards better judicial cooperation and faster prosecution. This is particularly important when investigating international terrorism, trafficking in human beings, drugs and firearms, smuggling of migrants, cybercrime or money laundering”, said ECR Rapporteur Assita Kanko after the vote.
“With this law, we will now ensure that justice works better in all EU countries and that our citizens are protected and respected”, Kanko concluded.
The Parliament adopted the new legal framework by 604 votes to 2, with 6 abstentions.
