The ECR Group condemns in the strongest possible terms the conduct of Rima Hassan, MEP for La France Insoumise and member of The Left group in the European Parliament, following an incident yesterday evening at an exhibition commemorating the victims of the Hamas terrorist attacks of 7 October 2023.

According to press reports citing eyewitnesses, Hassan confronted Israeli artist Yaron Bob at the exhibition, denounced its presentation of the 7 October massacre and knocked down and walked over Israeli and European Union flags displayed there. The incident took place in Strasbourg just two days before the third anniversary of the attacks.

ECR Group Co-Chair Nicola Procaccini said:

“There are moments when even the deepest political disagreements must give way to basic human decency. A memorial to innocent people murdered on 7 October is a place for dignity and remembrance, not provocation. What happened is disgraceful, and behaviour of this kind inside the European Parliament cannot simply be ignored. There must be consequences.”
