ECR group welcomes Eleni Theocharous

The ECR Group in the European Parliament has last night voted to admit Cypriot MEP Eleni Theocharous to the group.

The ECR Group in the European Parliament has last night voted to admit Cypriot MEP Eleni Theocharous to the group.

Dr Theocharous is serving her second term in the European Parliament. Before that she was a member of the House of Representatives, a University Professor and a Paediatric Surgeon. She is particularly well known for her humanitarian work, including as a member of the High Directorate of Medicins du Monde. She has participated in a large number of medical missions in all war zones in the last three decades.

European Conservatives and Reformists group leader Syed Kamall said:

“I am delighted that Eleni has joined the ECR Group. She is a highly respected member of the parliament and an expert on foreign affairs and humanitarian issues. Eleni is the kind of politician who rolls up her sleeves and helps out, using her medical skills to help people in war zones and those suffering from AIDS and poverty. I look forward to working with Eleni to continue building a strong force for EU reform.”

Eleni Theocharous said:

“I believe that the ECR Group is the best political vehicle to deliver the principles and values of the EU, for eradicating poverty and the prevalence of humanism. I look forward to working with the ECR members in order to promote our values and offer an alternative path for the EU.”
