ECR welcomes Chemicals Omnibus VI vote to ease burden on European industry

The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group welcomes today’s joint vote in the Committees on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on the Omnibus VI package, which simplifies requirements and procedures for chemical products.

On behalf of the IMCO Committee, ECR MEP Piotr Müller served as co-rapporteur on this file.

Speaking after the vote, Piotr Müller said:

“In a difficult economic context, defined by high energy costs and strong global competition, it is essential to give European industry more breathing space. This compromise provides tangible relief, improves legal certainty and supports innovation across the Single Market.

“This vote is a victory for common sense over red tape and a step toward restoring the competitiveness that the ECR Group has been fighting for all along.”

The package updates key EU legislation, including the classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals (CLP) Regulation, the Cosmetic Products Regulation and the Fertilising Products Regulation. It introduces targeted simplifications to reduce administrative burdens, improve workability and strengthen legal certainty for businesses, while maintaining the EU’s science-based framework for the protection of human health and the environment.

Pietro Fiocchi, ECR Shadow Rapporteur in the ENVI committee said:

“We have reached an outcome that delivers targeted simplification where it matters most and makes the rules more workable for industry, marking a clear step forward.

“We have cut unnecessary regulatory burdens and introduced practical solutions that strengthen competitiveness, while safeguarding the core principles of health and environmental protection. The balance found today is a first step to deliver what Europe’s industry needs.”

The ECR Group underlined that simplification has been achieved while retaining the core safety architecture. Decisions remain science-based, protections for human health and the environment are preserved, and marked improvements in legal certainty have been secured as the file moves into trilogue negotiations.
