“Erasmus+ will become simpler, more accessible and more closely focused on vocational training and the skills young people need in the labour market,” ECR Shadow Rapporteur Lara Magoni said today, welcoming the adoption of the Culture and Education Committee’s position on the Erasmus+ programme for 2028–2034.

“Vocational education and training will have a stronger place. Mobility should not only broaden horizons. It should also help young people acquire practical skills, recognised qualifications and better employment prospects,” Magoni said.

The Erasmus+ programme will place greater emphasis on widening access for young people who have traditionally faced greater obstacles to taking part in mobility programmes, particularly those from socially, culturally or geographically disadvantaged and peripheral areas.

“Where a young person comes from should not determine whether they can benefit. Young people in peripheral areas and those from disadvantaged backgrounds must have a genuine opportunity to participate,” Magoni said.

Magoni, a former competitive alpine skier, also welcomed stronger opportunities for education, training and mobility in the field of sport, including for sports organisations, young athletes and volunteers.

“Erasmus+ will offer more opportunities for trainees and volunteers in sport to gain experience abroad and bring that knowledge back to their communities. These exchanges can make a real difference by broadening experience, building confidence and opening up new perspectives,” Magoni said.

The Culture and Education Committee adopted its position by 24 votes in favour, one against and one abstention.
