ECR Group members have reacted to the European Commission's publication of its 'Green Deal'. The proposals were presented by President Ursula von der Leyen this afternoon during a specially convened plenary session in Brussels.
Alexandr Vondra, ECR Group Environment spokesman, said:
“The EU can have all the ambition in the world but we will only support the Green Deal if it delivers policies that are credible and achievable. It will all be for nothing unless we find a way that can actually deliver this agenda, including properly funding this green transition in the communities and sectors set to be the most affected.
Ryszard Legutko, ECR Co-Chair and who led for the Group in today’s debate, said:
“It is crucial that all Member States can sign up to the overall goals of the Green Deal, otherwise they will never be able to get their public to buy in to the sudden increase in our climate ambitions. For them to be able to reduce their emissions in a sustainable way we need to recognise that all our economies are different, and will require flexibility and specific programmes to help them deliver the new goals.”
