ECR Italian MEP Ms. Cristiana Muscardini and ECR Leader Martin Callanan have asked the European Commission, in an Oral Question, to update the Parliament on its FRONTEX and EUROSUR projects.
After the tragic shipwreck off the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa- the last of a long series- that caused more than 111 innocent deaths, European Conservatives and Reformists Italian MEP Ms. Cristiana Muscardini and ECR Leader Martin Callanan have asked the European Commission, in an Oral Question, to update the Parliament on its FRONTEX and EUROSUR projects.
The EU can’t look the other way whilst its southern Member States face every day the human tragedy of thousands of people that seek a better life as refugees, and Member States should seek to improve the measures used to fight against human trafficking.
Ms Muscardini and Mr Callanan ask the Commission to encourage Member States to improve cooperation between their coast guard and rescue services to prevent tragedies that have caused more than 6000 deaths in the Sicilian Channel in less than 10 years, and to strengthen agreements with those countries of Maghreb that agree to host refugees from Eritrea, Somalia and Syria.
