Speaking after the President-elect of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled the portfolios of the next European Commission, Syed Kamall, Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group, said:
“We welcome the fact that the priorities for the commission Vice-Presidents are broadly aimed at economic reform, and we will work with them where the reform agenda is pursued in the day-to-day work the commission undertakes. This commission needs to focus on the areas where the EU can add value, and scale back on those areas that should be handled at a more local level.
“The ECR will now engage in a constructive manner with all of the Commissioners-designate in the run-up to the European Parliament’s vote. We will keep an open mind going into these hearings and press each Commissioner-designate on their ideas and ability to bring reforms that tackle the challenges of the future. We will make a decision on the College as a whole following the hearings.”
