Kamall on security: More cooperation instead of more EU agencies

We may be divided by our politics, but we remain united in our fight against terrorism, ECR Group leader Syed Kamall told Members of the European Parliament today.

We may be divided by our politics, but we remain united in our fight against terrorism, ECR Group leader Syed Kamall told Members of the European Parliament today. Speaking in the key debate in Strasbourg, he argued that the EU should focus on effective cooperation and the rules that have so far proved to be working instead of creating more EU agencies and new rules.

Mr Kamall said: “While others will call for new rules, the ECR Group calls for the EU to make what we already have work better. While others will call for more agencies, the ECR Group calls for effective action. While others will call for further political integration, the ECR Group calls for political cooperation.

In case the Turkey deal breaks down, we need to effectively tackle the migrant crisis by processing asylum applications quickly and efficiently, returning those that do not qualify to their country of origin, agreeing clear criteria for qualification based on the Geneva convention, and by not continuing to pursue a struggling relocation scheme without the full support of all Member States.
