The ECR policy working group on institutional reform led by Polish MEP Professor Zdzisław Krasnodębski has hosted a legal workshop bringing together a number of jurists specialised in EU and constitutional law.
The legal experts discussed issues such as the relationship between EU law and the law of the EU Member States, as well as the role of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in extending the competences of the EU institutions (ultra vires).
Special interest went into understanding the concept of the rule of law as an element of the constitutional order of the Member States, the use of the rule of law as an instrument for centralising the competences of EU institutions and the role of the ECJ, the European Parliament and European Commission.
