New centre right force launched in Italy

A new centre right force with an eye on the future is emerging in Italy under the leadership of new ECR MEP Raffaele Fitto. Yesterday at a conference in Rome, European Conservatives and Reformists Group leader Syed Kamall and Vice-President Geoffrey Van Orden supported the new movement that aims to offer an alternative in Italy’s centre-right politics.

At the conference, it was announced that 12 Italian senators would join with Mr Fitto’s new Conservatori e Riformisti party.

Speaking at the conference on the future of centre-right politics in Italy, Syed Kamall said:

“In the ECR we showed that it is possible to break away from the old ways and the old politics and to offer people something new. Across Europe people have responded to our principles of cutting bureaucracy, supporting businesses, and making the EU do less but do it better. We have shown that a different kind of EU is possible.

“I am confident that Raffaelle and the Conservative and Reformist movement will only grow, as it offers people a new sense of hope and a new type of politics that people can believe in. Talking to my own Italian friends, there is clearly a need for a new movement and a new face around which the centre right can rally and put their trust.

“This is what we are here to support today, to offer a simple message that when you offer good conservative principles like lower taxes, less regulation, and more opportunities for businesses. When you offer opportunities for young people, security for older people, and trust in the instincts of all people, you will succeed, you will offer hope, and you will go from strength to strength.”
