The Week Ahead - 10th - 14th February

10th - 14th February: EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, EU strategy to put an end to FGM, proposed mandate for negotiations for a new partnership with the UK.

EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement

On Wednesday, the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement will be voted on in plenary. It removes nearly all tariffs on goods between the EU and Vietnam and it’s clearly the most ambitious and comprehensive Free Trade Agreement that the EU has ever concluded with a middle-income country. Rapporteur and ECR MEP Geert Bourgeois strongly believes that the trade agreement will have a positive impact on the reform process in the country and offers progress in the field of labour and human rights through a clear commitment from the Vietnamese authorities.
