The impact of the Ukraine crisis on fertiliser prices and the consequences on the agri-food sector
On Wednesday, the Committee on Agriculture will hold an exchange of views on the rising prices on fertilisers prices. Fertilisers are currently three to four times more expensive than a year ago, partly due to the sharp increase in the price of the necessary natural gas used to make them. The ECR Group will press the European Commission for a rapid introduction of artificial mineral fertiliser substitutes.

A Common Charger
On Wednesday, the Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection will vote on a new EU law on the harmonisation of chargers for mobile devices. The ECR Group supports the principle of making life easier for users. At the same time, however, consumer choice and furthering innovation should not be hampered.

The Ukrainian crisis and global food security
On Wednesday, the Committee on development will discuss global food supply against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. The ECR Group points out that rising food prices and shortages of crops are already being felt in the Middle East and North Africa region. If no countermeasures are taken, an increase in global hunger and poverty should be expected.

Situation in Ukraine and the effectiveness of Sanctions
On Wednesday morning, the Foreign Affairs Committee will assess how effective the current sanctions against Russia actually are. The ECR Group is of the opinion that the sanctions should be airtight and comprehensive. Most notably, they should include all Russian energy exports and a ban on all Russian banks’ access to SWIFT.
