EU-China talks

On Monday, European Council President Charles Michel and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will hold a video conference with Chinese leaders. On various occasions, the ECR has expressed its grave concerns about the unilateral introduction of national security legislation in Hong Kong by Beijing. For the ECR, the EU has to stand by the people of Hong Kong.

Towards a strategic approach to cultural heritage

On Monday, the Committee on Culture and Education is going to debate Dace Melbarde’s report on “achieving an effective policy legacy for the European Year of Cultural Heritage”. The report emphasises the need for a more coordinated approach to preserving and promoting cultural heritage. It also highlights the value of digital cultural heritage and discusses the role of cultural heritage on the economy, as the EU has a significant share of cultural tourism.

Biodiversity Strategy

The Agriculture and Rural Development Committee is going to hold an exchange of views over the recently proposed EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 with Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius. For the ECR, protection of the environment and food safety should go hand in hand. Green Deal aims should not be played off against farmers or a secured food supply.

Conference of Presidents with Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

On Tuesday, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is going to attend the Parliament’s Conference of Presidents to discuss the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework.
