MEPs are in Brussels this week where committee meetings are taking place and individual MEPs are holding hearings and events. This week is also the first week that the new von der Leyen European Commission begins its work.
First Monetary Dialogue with new ECB President Christine Lagarde
MEPs on the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will hold their first exchange of views on the euro area and future steps for monetary policy with new European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde; ECR MEP Johan Van Overtveldt will be amongst our members taking part.

Exchange of views with Hong Kong protest leader Joshua Wong
Parliament’s Human Rights Committee will host a debate via. video link with Joshua Wong, Secretary-General of the Demosisto Party and one of the leading figures of the Hong Kong protests. The ECR has congratulated the democracy movement on its overwhelming success in the recent district elections, where an unprecedented turnout of voters endorsed their programme. We urge the Chinese government in Beijing in accordance with the status of “one country, two systems” to fully respect the outcome of the elections and to respond positively to the clearly expressed views of the people of Hong Kong.

ECR Conference on the Child Guarantee
ECR MEPs on the Employment Committee are organising a conference on the Child Guarantee which will include representatives of the Polish Government as well as NGO experts from Poland, Germany and Slovakia. The conference aims to discuss different instruments to combat child poverty in Europe, an issue that has also been set out as one of the priorities in the inauguration speech of new Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The event is co-hosted by Beata Szydlo and Elżbieta Rafalska, while ECR Chair of the committee Lucia Duris Nicholsonova and MEPs Helmut Geuking and Angel Dzhambazki will also take the floor.
