Ukraine & the European Council

On Monday, EU leaders will gather for a special meeting of the European Council focusing on the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as related topics such as energy, defence and food security. Given the gravity of what the war means for Europe and the word, we will closely follow this exceptional meeting. The ECR Group stands firmly with Ukraine and its people against the barbarism of Russia.

When: Monday

Green Deal & Taxonomy

On Monday, the Economic and Monetary Affairs and Environment, Public Health and Food Safety committees will hold a public hearing with experts on proposals to classify certain instances of gas and nuclear energy production as transitional activities helping mitigate climate change. The ECR Group is strongly in favour of developing Europe’s nuclear power capacities, as nuclear offers a source of clean, reliable and inexpensive energy. With prices skyrocketing, impacting both citizens and businesses across Europe, all options must be considered to bring down the cost of energy.

Ukraine & Solidarity Lanes

On Monday, the Agriculture Committee is set to debate plans to open Solidarity Lanes between the EU and Ukraine. Such transit corridors are envisioned to help the country export its grain and import the supplies it needs. While global food prices continue to rise and the war in Ukraine continues, facilitating the flow of foodstuffs out of Ukraine and the flow of humanitarian aid and other goods in is vital.
