The Week Ahead - 4th-8th May 2020

Just Transition Fund, Digital Transformation and COVID-19 recovery of the economy, impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the media and creative sector, Commission Work Programme and MFF.

Establishing the Just Transition Fund

The ENVI Committee will hold a presentation and an exchange of views on ECR MEP Alexandr Vondra’s draft opinion on Establishing the Just Transition Fund. Mr Vondra believes additional money is needed to increase the size of the Just Transition Funds, which must be debated on during the ongoing negotiations of the next Multiannual Financial Framework. Given the current, broader political context—including the likelihood that there will be a lower investment capacity in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis—Mr Vondra believes that the EU may not be ready to pursue climate neutrality by 2050.

Commission Work Programme and MFF

Ahead of the meeting, the ECR Co-Chairmen Ryszard Legutko and Raffaele Fitto sent a letter asking the Commission President that the Initiatives of the revised Commission Work Programme 2020 be guided by a ‘Recovery Test’.
