Responding to the protests in Turkey, Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament, Martin Callanan, said:

“The ECR Group expresses its sympathy for the injury and loss of life in demonstrations in Turkish cities and shares the concern, also expressed by the Turkish Government, at the disproportionate use of force by the police. We have confidence that the anxieties in relation to municipal development and wider social issues that seem to have sparked the unrest will be addressed sympathetically through Turkey’s well-established democratic processes.”
