EU-Indo Pacific trade relations; EU agriculture harvest 2022

EU-Indo Pacific trade relations

On Thursday, the Committee on International Trade will hold a hearing on EU-Indo Pacific trade relations. The pace at which the EU has concluded trade and investment agreements has slowed in recent years. For standing Rapporteur on the Pacific ECR MEP Jan Zahradil however, the recently concluded partnerships in the region show that such agreements work and have already produced important mutual benefits. The EU should engage with the region even further, especially with regard to cooperation in the field of digitalisation. For standing rapporteur for India ECR MEP Geert Bourgeois, negotiations with the subcontinent are in full swing, with the aim of concluding them in 2023. Both ECR MEPs believe that we need more multilateralism, more cooperation and more diversification to ensure supply chain resilience.

EU agriculture harvest 2022

On Wednesday, the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development will discuss the perspectives of the EU agriculture harvest 2022. This year, the production of milk, beef and cereals is decreasing, while imports are being affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Covid-19 pandemic and drought. The EU needs to bolster its own agricultural production to secure enough food for its population.
