Omnibus VI: Chemicals

On Wednesday, the European Parliament’s Committee on Environment, Climate and Food Safety and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection will vote on the Omnibus VI simplification package. On behalf of the IMCO Committee, ECR MEP Piotr Müller is co-rapporteur. Omnibus IV, the chemicals omnibus, seeks to simplify requirements and procedures for chemical products as part of the EU’s wider effort to streamline legislation and reduce burdens across the Single Market. The package amends key legislation, in particular the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Chemicals Regulation, the Cosmetic Products Regulation, and the Fertilising Products Regulation, to lower compliance costs, support innovation and simplify requirements, while maintaining a high level of protection for human health and the environment and strengthening legal certainty for businesses. Overall, it represents a delicate compromise between reducing administrative burdens and preserving robust safeguards for human health and the environment. This balance is essential to sustain competitiveness in these strategic sectors, particularly in the current geopolitical context. Swift adoption will therefore be critical to provide businesses with the certainty they need and to reinforce the EU’s regulatory competitiveness.

Budget Committee votes on MFF 2028-2034

On Wednesday, the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets will vote on its interim report on the post-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), a key milestone as Parliament begins to shape its negotiating position on the EU’s next long-term budget. For the ECR Group, the future MFF must focus on delivering real European public goods with clear added value, rather than simply expanding the overall budget. The Group rejects the idea of a single national plan per Member State, warning that it would risk fragmenting the Single Market and weakening key policies such as agriculture and cohesion. Instead, the ECR prioritises food security, support for farmers and fisheries, continued and well-targeted cohesion funding, and stronger investment in cross-border infrastructure, including energy and transport networks. The Group also underlines the importance of reinforcing border protection, migration management, and defence capabilities, particularly at the EU’s eastern borders. At the same time, the budget should become more flexible and better targeted, focusing on improved spending efficiency and policy coherence rather than higher overall figures. On the compromise text, the ECR Group welcomes a number of positive elements, including dedicated funding for farmers and rural areas, the ring-fencing of the European Social Fund and EU4Health, as well as the inclusion of a solidarity reserve for natural disasters. However, the ECR expresses concerns about more expansionist approaches on the revenue side, in particular regarding own resources, as well as a narrow approach to external action.

MEPs meet with Iranian opposition

On Wednesday, members of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and the Delegation for relations with Iran will hold an exchange of views on the current situation in Iran with advocates for a free and democratic Iran. From the ECR Group perspective, the meeting highlights the urgent need for the EU to maintain a firm stance on Iran in response to ongoing human rights violations and the continued repression of political opposition.

Temu faces EU scrutiny

On Thursday, a representative from Temu, the global e-commerce platform, will meet Members of the European Parliament in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee. The debate will focus on online marketplaces and their compliance with EU rules on product safety, consumer protection, and digital platform regulation, as IMCO Members assess how effectively these requirements are enforced within the Single Market. SHEIN and AliExpress have previously appeared before the committee in similar exchanges. The EU already has a comprehensive regulatory framework in place to protect consumers, including children, from unsafe products sold online. The key challenge now lies in ensuring consistent and effective enforcement across all operators. European companies invest significant resources to comply with these obligations, ensuring high standards of safety and consumer trust. It is therefore essential that global online marketplaces operating in the EU are subject to the same rules and cannot gain a competitive advantage by failing to comply. From the ECR Group perspective, the exchange should focus on accountability, transparency, and concrete commitments from online platforms, alongside stronger enforcement of existing EU legislation to guarantee a fair and safe digital Single Market for both consumers and businesses.

Beyond Diagnosis: supporting autistic people through needs-based approaches and digital tools

On Wednesday, ECR MEP Chiara Gemma will host a seminar exploring new approaches to supporting autistic people beyond traditional care models. April is Autism Awareness Month, and there could be no more meaningful occasion to address, at European level, a challenge that is becoming increasingly urgent for our healthcare and social care systems: the rapid rise in autism diagnoses and the growing unsustainability of traditional care models. Through the contributions of international experts from universities and research institutions across Europe, the seminar proposes a paradigm shift: from diagnosis as the primary gateway to services, towards an approach grounded in individual functional needs and supported by digital technologies. This event is an important opportunity for dialogue between science, policy and lived experience, with a view building more equitable and sustainable autism support systems across Europe.

Workshop: From patient needs to action

On Wednesday, ECR MEP Aurelijus Veryga will host a workshop on the European Health Data Space (EHDS), placing patient perspectives at the centre of discussions on its implementation. The workshop aims to gather structured input on how data quality shapes lived experiences, identify gaps in current systems, and define the conditions needed to build and sustain trust.

The discussion will explore how meaningful patient engagement can strengthen data governance and improve decision-making processes. Designed as a roundtable, the workshop seeks to generate concrete, patient-driven priorities for future action—particularly in relation to transparency, safeguards, feedback mechanisms, and long-term involvement.

The State of the Ukraine Investment Framework – A Vehicle for Ukraine’s Reconstruction and Prosperity

On Tuesday, ECR MEPs Małgorzata Gosiewska and Michał Dworczyk will host a high-level policy discussion on the state of the Ukraine Investment Framework and its role in supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction and long-term prosperity. As the second pillar of the EU’s Ukraine Facility, the Ukraine Investment Framework (UIF) plays a crucial role in driving recovery and modernisation by mobilising public and private investment, with the aim of generating up to €40 billion by 2027. This discussion will bring together European policymakers, representatives of international financial institutions, EU bodies, and the private sector to assess the current state of the UIF, evaluate progress in its implementation, and explore ways to further enhance its effectiveness in supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.
