Taxonomy
On Tuesday, the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will jointly vote on a resolution that calls to reject the Delegated Act that provides for some leeway in terms of qualifying gas and nuclear actives as sustainable under transitional categories. However, in the ECR Group’s opinion, nuclear power can provide a stable and affordable energy supply and reduce emissions rapidly if it is given adequate access to the necessary capital. The outcome of the taxonomy procedure will send very strong signal to the financial markets.

EU-India future trade and investment cooperation
On Thursday, the Committee on International Trade will vote on ECR Rapporteur Geert Bourgeois’ Initiative Report that calls on the EU to improve and deepen the strategic relationship with India. The ECR Group is very much in favour of closer economic ties with India and recognises that the country is an important partner when it comes to diversifying the EU’s supply chains.

How to prevent a global food crisis
On Tuesday, the Committee on Agriculture will hold an exchange of views with Markian Dmytrasevych, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food in charge of export affairs. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is hampering Ukraine’s large exports of cereals and other foodstuffs. How can the EU help prevent a food crisis, especially in Africa?

Tips from Israel on hosting Ukrainians
Israel has a lot of experience with immigration and integration. What experience of Israel might be useful as the European Union welcomes millions of Ukrainians? On Tuesday, ECR MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen will co-host EPP MEP Antonio Lopez-Isturiz’s conference with Israeli Minister of Immigration and Absorbtion Pnina Tamano-Shata, the first Ethiopian-born Israeli minister. EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi is also among the speakers, as well as Rabbi Menachem Margolin.

The ECR Group rejects futile EU centralisation attempts
On Wednesday, the European Commission may present a text that proposes a way forwards for the follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe in areas falling under its remit. MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, who is leading the negotiations on behalf of the ECR Group in the European Parliament, is of the opinion that: “We do not need to rush into institutional reforms in order to deliver results that would be divisive and slow down the EU in its readiness to serve citizens’ needs. The institutional balance of the EU must not be endangered. The EU’s handling of the crises in recent years – including COVID-19 and Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine – have clearly shown how much the EU can deliver within the current Treaty framework, especially thanks to the principles of subsidiary, proportionality and proximity, which give the Member States all necessary powers to act accordingly.”
