It is a ‘Green Week’ in the European Parliament.MEPs are in their constituencies or on committee delegations making visits relating to issues under their responsibility. Regular parliamentary businesswill resume on 27 February.

MEPs visit migrant reception centres

From Monday to Thursday, ECR MEP Assita Kanko will take part in a mission by the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs to investigate irregular crossings into the UK and the impact on migrant reception centres. The MEPs are concerned about this chaotic situation and will meet with government officials and agencies responsible for migration policy, as well as representatives of NGOs and other stakeholders. The mission will begin in Brussels, where they will meet with the Belgian Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration and visit a local registration centre. On Tuesday, the mission will continue in Calais with meetings with municipal representatives and judicial and police authorities in charge of security aspects related to borders and the migration situation more generally, with a focus on the fight against smuggling. The mission will conclude in the Netherlands with a meeting with the Dutch Minister for Migration and a visit to reception centres in Utrecht and Ter Apel.
