Extraordinary plenary session in support of Ukraine
On Tuesday, 24 February, the European Parliament will hold an extraordinary plenary session in Brussels to mark four years since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The one-day session will include a debate on the ongoing war and a vote on a motion for a resolution focusing on European contributions to achieving a just peace and ensuring sustained security for Ukraine. The joint text, agreed during the February plenary week, underscores the barbaric nature of Russia’s aggression, pays tribute to Ukraine’s heroic defence, and recognises the solidarity demonstrated by the EU in supporting Ukraine. For the ECR Group, sustained and credible support for Ukraine is not only a matter of solidarity, but a fundamental investment in Europe’s own security. The ECR Group reiterates that continued European unity, sustained support for Ukraine and firm pressure on Russia remain indispensable to achieving a just and lasting peace.

EU-US INTA Vote
On Tuesday, Members of the International Trade Committee will vote on two legislative proposals implementing the EU commitments stemming from the EU–US agreement reached in Turnberry in 2025. The first proposal concerns the adjustment of customs duties and the opening of tariff quotas, recalibrating tariff treatment for specific products originating in the United States of America. The second proposal provides for the non-application of customs duties on certain goods, effectively removing tariffs altogether for selected imports.
The ECR Group welcomes the renewed focus on EU–US trade relations and is particularly pleased to see negotiations resume following a brief pause caused by recent tensions. After developments that tested diplomatic reflexes on both sides of the Atlantic, this return to constructive engagement is a positive step forward. The Group supports a responsible approach that safeguards this strategic partnership, strengthens economic cooperation, reinforces our shared security interests and provides certainty for EU producers.
