The EU must rethink the internal combustion engine ban

EU Member States decided on Friday morning to postpone the vote on the controversial EU-wide ban on internal combustion engines in cars after 2035 without specifying a new date. The ECR Group has called from the beginning of the legislative process for technological openness, leaving room for further development of combustion technology. A ban of the combustion engine will cost Europe hundreds of thousands of jobs and leave a vital European industry dangerously dependent on batteries, raw materials and rare earths of dubious origin and availability. The ECR hopes that the Council will adopt a more realistic approach that will open up more opportunities for the European automotive industry than the current proposal.

Preparations for the March plenary week

ECR Group MEPs will use next week to prepare for the Strasbourg session from 13 to 16 March.
