Parliaments constitutive plenary session in Strasbourg

Election of the Bureau of the European Parliament

On Tuesday and Wednesday in Strasbourg, MEPs will vote to elect the Bureau of the European Parliament. The Bureau consists of the President of the European Parliament, the fourteen Vice-Presidents and the five Quaestors elected for a period of two and a half years.

Election of the President of the European Commission

On Thursday afternoon, MEPs will vote in a secret ballot to elect the next President of the European Commission. The current head of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is seeking re-election. Mrs von der Leyen will visit the ECR Group on Tuesday morning to present her programme.

Maintaining support for Ukraine

On Wednesday, MEPs will debate the need for continued support for Ukraine. The ECR was the first group to call for a military training mission, which was launched in November 2022 and has now trained over 52,000 Ukrainian soldiers. The Group expresses its full and unwavering support for Ukraine and calls on the EU to do everything in its power to ensure that it emerges victorious from the current conflict. Parliament will adopt a resolution on the matter in the afternoon.
