19 - 21 July, Cyprus

In July 1974, Turkish troops invaded Cyprus: fifty-one years later, part of the island remains under illegal occupation, hundreds of thousands violently displaced from their homes and thousands of families have spent decades demanding answers about the fate of their loved ones who disappeared in the atrocities of the invasion.

On 19-21 July, ECR MEP Geadis Geadi will host an event in Nicosia — Europe’s only semi-occupied capital — that draws attention to the historical and political injustices and consequences of the invasion, and to offer an opportunity to witness first-hand the human stories, loss, and enduring challenges faced by the Cypriot people. The event, entitled ‘Never Forget’, will include meetings with high-level officials, as well as on-site visits to key locations that reflect the continued struggle and occupation of the island, as well as the determination of the people of Cyprus to liberate their country.
