Event on Equitable Access to Palliative Care in Europe

Hosted by MEP Veryga, in collaboration with the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC).

Access to quality palliative care remains unequal across Europe, particularly for people living in rural, remote, and underserved communities. Patients with serious illnesses and their families continue to face barriers such as limited healthcare resources, insufficient awareness, financial constraints, and geographical distance, preventing them from receiving timely, compassionate, and person-centred care.

This event, hosted by MEP Veryga in collaboration with the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC), will raise awareness of the importance of equitable access to palliative care and explore strategies to ensure that everyone can access appropriate support, regardless of where they live or at what stage of illness they need it.

Bringing together policymakers, healthcare professionals, experts, community representatives, patients, and caregivers, the event will provide a platform to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and discuss innovative approaches to strengthening palliative care provision across Europe. Discussions will focus on addressing existing inequalities, improving awareness and availability of services, strengthening healthcare systems, and fostering cooperation between European and national stakeholders.

By encouraging collaboration and supporting policy development, the event aims to advance the integration of palliative care into healthcare systems and promote policies that uphold dignity, quality of life, and the needs and preferences of patients and their families.

Ultimately, the event will reaffirm that palliative care is an essential component of universal health coverage and that everyone should have access to compassionate, high-quality, person-centred care, wherever they live and whenever they need it.
