On Tuesday, 15 September, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group will host a special commemorative event in Strasbourg honouring King Jan III Sobieski.

The event will include a ceremony to name the ECR Group meeting room WEISS N1.3 in his honour, a historical exhibition and a Polish Hussar parade. King Jan III Sobieski was the elected King of Poland from 1674 to 1696 and a renowned military leader who played a decisive role in defeating the Ottoman forces at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. The ceremony will be preceded by the opening of the Sobieski historical exhibition at 14:00. The exhibition will be open to visitors at the European Parliament in Strasbourg from 14 to 17 September.

13:15 - Parade of the Winged Hussars

A historical reenactment group portraying the legendary Polish Winged Hussars will parade at the entrance of the WEISS Building, on the public road and in the surrounding space near the flags.

14:00 - Exhibition Opening

The formal opening of an exhibition dedicated to King Jan III Sobieski will take place in the North Gallery Exhibition Space. The exhibition explores his life, military achievements, and legacy.

14:30 – Official Naming Ceremony

Officially naming Room N1.3 in the WEISS Building in honor of King Jan III Sobieski.

15:00 - 17:00 - Display of the Military Encampment
