Ahead of the European Commission’s proposal for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group outlines its key priorities for a more responsible, flexible, and citizen-focused EU budget.
ECR BUDG Coordinator Bogdan Rzońca said:
“Europe does not need more centralisation – it needs smarter spending. The EU budget must serve citizens, not institutions, and support projects that bring concrete results in our regions.”
ECR MFF Shadow Rapporteur Roberts Zīle stressed:
“As we enter a new strategic era, the EU must focus its resources on security, competitiveness and cohesion – not on vague ambitions. Every euro must be spent with clear purpose and accountability.”
The ECR Group calls for a streamlined budget that respects subsidiarity, safeguards cohesion and agriculture as distinct pillars, and supports Europe’s security and energy resilience while reducing regulatory burdens for businesses.
