Event: Digital Services Act: a threat to freedom of speech

On Wednesday afternoon, ECR MEP Fernand Kartheiser and the ECR Group will host an event on the topic of “Protecting Freedom of Speech from Digital Platforms and Censorship Legislation”. The event will feature Michael Shellenberger as the guest speaker. Mr. Shellenberger is a professor, journalist, and acclaimed author of books such as Apocalypse Never and San Fransicko. He has written extensively on topics including free speech, homelessness, and the environment. In December 2022, following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, Shellenberger was one of the investigative journalists behind the Twitter Files, which exposed censorship practices at the social media company. Event: Beyond the obstacle

On Tuesday, to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, ECR MEP’s Chiara Gemma and Lara Magoni will host an event entitled “Beyond the Obstacle. Stories of life, stories of triumph”. This meeting presents a unique opportunity to hear powerful personal stories and testimonies highlighting how individuals have overcome various physical and social barriers. The discussions aim to offer valuable insights into a central theme: that disability is not just a physical condition but also, above all, a cultural issue. The event aspires to raise awareness and promote a message of inclusion. The event will be opened by European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Link to the events website here.

Event: The Iranian Regime. Security implications for Europe and Israel

The current Iranian regime is a threat to us all. And right now, Israel is feeling the consequences. On Wednesday, ECR MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen will host a conference on the Iranian regime, security implications for Europe and Israel. Keynote speakers will be Amit Halevi (Member of the Israeli Knesset), Professor Afshin Ellian (Founder of the Free Iran Committee) and Josh Reinsein (President of the Israel Allies Foundation). Event: “A Fair Green Transition: Leaving No One Behind in the EU’s Sustainability Efforts”

As the European Union navigates the complexities of the Green Deal, it is crucial to address the balance between advancing sustainable energy initiatives and continued reliance on fossil fuels during this transformative period. On Thursday, ECR MEP Gheorge Piperea will host a conference on “A Fair Green Transition: Leaving no one behind in the EU’s sustainability efforts”. The event will bring together leading politicians and representatives of the energy and justice sectors from Romania and other countries. The main objective is to promote a substantive and fruitful dialogue on how to achieve a just green transition in the EU. Speakers will also explore the new EU Directive 2024/1760 on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence, which aims to ensure that all companies respect human rights and freedoms in their operations. The conference will share best practices and identify concrete steps to ensure that no Member State is left behind in the transition to greener energy solutions.
