Wednesday 4 March @ 10:00-13:00
On Wednesday, ECR MEP Assita Kanko will chair a meeting of the European Parliament Police Intergroup under the theme: “Before Borders and Battlefields: How the Police Are Central to Europe’s Security.”
Weaponised migration, sabotage of critical infrastructure, illegal drones and smuggling balloons forcing airspace closures, cyber-attacks, online trolls and disinformation campaigns — the nature of threats facing Europe is rapidly evolving. The EU may not be directly at war, but it is no longer at peace. Four years after Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, incidents falling under the broad category of hybrid attacks continue to multiply. This year’s annual Police Intergroup event will focus on the central role of police and other law enforcement authorities in protecting Europe’s citizens against these complex and interconnected threats.
The discussion will highlight the need for adequate support for police forces, stronger integration between internal and external security strategies, and the full inclusion of law enforcement authorities in international cooperation efforts to counter hybrid threats.
