Tuesday 26 September @ 13:00 - 14:00 CET
On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the birth of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, ECR MEP Witold Waszczykowski invites you to the opening of the exhibition "The Astronomer Copernicus, or Conversation with God" on Tuesday.
“The Astronomer Copernicus, or Conversation with God” goes on display at the European Parliament on the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’s birth.
A copy of Jan Matejko’s famous painting of Copernicus will adorn the European Parliament in Brussels from 26 September 2023.
The painting by Ireneusz Rolewski, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, is a faithful copy of an 1873 work by Polish painter of historical canvases, Jan Matejko. Matejko painted “The Astronomer Copernicus, or Conversation with God” in homage to the Polish astronomer.
Matejko’s work is being shown to mark the 550th anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’s birth. The astronomer’s name has been given to the European Union’s landmark Earth observation programme to monitor the surface of the globe, including its atmospheric, marine and land environments, to ensure the greater safety of all inhabitants.
The display will have its official opening at 1:00 p.m. on 26 September, 2023.
