On Wednesday, ECR MEP Aurelijus Veryga will host a policy discussion on preventing respiratory infections in an ageing Europe and preparing health systems for the next winter season.

The event will bring together policymakers, healthcare professionals, public health experts and other stakeholders to discuss how prevention, immunisation and early intervention can help reduce avoidable hospitalisations caused by influenza, COVID-19 and RSV.

Building on the findings of previous discussions in the series, the event will focus on practical policy solutions, including better financing and incentives for prevention, stronger coordination and data use, improved vaccination uptake and the integration of respiratory infection prevention into broader health system resilience and healthy ageing strategies.

The discussion will explore how EU and national policies can better support Member States in preparing for seasonal pressure and ensuring that prevention becomes a more consistent and integral part of resilient healthcare systems.
