The ECR Group notes that the outcome of today’s vote reflects ECR demands for proportionality and workability in the EU Deforestation Regulation.
Speaking after the vote, ECR Shadow Rapporteur Anna Zalewska said the changes address long-standing concerns about legal uncertainty and disproportionate administrative burdens, particularly for small and micro operators.
“This agreement moves the regulation closer to something that can be implemented in practice,” Zalewska said.
She underlined that the postponement of application dates provides necessary legal certainty and time for operators to prepare.
“Giving companies additional time is essential to ensure compliance and enforcement,” she said.
Zalewska also stressed the importance of simplifying due-diligence obligations and avoiding duplication across supply chains.
“Clear responsibility and simplified procedures are key to reducing unnecessary bureaucracy, especially for small producers,” she said.
The ECR Group has consistently argued that environmental legislation must be proportionate, enforceable and economically viable.
