14th of July 2026 @10:30 – 12:30 CET
On Tuesday, 14 July, ECR MEPs Pietro Fiocchi, Chiara Gemma and Antonella Sberna will host an event on AI for accessibility and its role in advancing European standards for inclusion.
Artificial intelligence is progressively assuming the role of an enabling infrastructure for access to fundamental rights. This event aims to initiate a structured reflection on the role of AI as a tool for inclusion, with reference to deaf and hard-of-hearing people, introducing the use of a totem in public places. Through real-time interaction and AI-driven sign language translation, the totem demonstrates how technology can remove communication barriers and support a more inclusive future. In addition to this focus, the program includes a session dedicated to the applications of artificial intelligence in the health and social care sectors, with the aim of exploring in depth the contribution these technologies can make to personalized medicine, prevention, treatment pathways, and, more generally, the development of increasingly innovative, inclusive, and person-centered welfare systems.
Starting from already operational application experiences, in particular solutions based on digital avatars for sign language communication, the initiative intends to promote dialogue among institutions, the research world, the economic-financial system, and civil society, to assess the possibility of developing a European reference model.
The event will be attended by leading experts in artificial intelligence, disability inclusion, healthcare management.
Interpretation will be available in English, Italian and Italian sign language
